Som en del av prosjektet Approaching Unrest etablerer Rogaland Kunstsenter et kuratert økososialt POP-UP bibliotek. Biblioteket fungerer som et midlertidig leserom og en kunnskapsressurs som samler litteratur som undersøker forholdet mellom økologi, økonomi, ressursforvaltning og sosial organisering.
Biblioteket er kuratert av Anne Marte Eidseth Rygh, som også er kurator for det femårige residensprogrammet Approaching Unrest (2026–2030). Samlingen er utviklet i forbindelse med residensoppholdet til kunstnerduoen Søssa Jørgensen og Geir Tore Holm, hvis praksis over lengre tid har arbeidet med spørsmål knyttet til kollektiv ressursforvaltning, økologiske sammenhenger, matsystemer og alternative måter å organisere fellesskap og økonomi på.
Bøkene i biblioteket berører en rekke sammenvevde temaer: politisk økologi og forholdet mellom natur, makt og økonomiske systemer; kritiske perspektiver på vekst, kapitalisme og ressursutnyttelse; urfolkskunnskap og andre relasjonelle forståelser av natur; samt hvordan kunstneriske praksiser kan bidra til å utvikle nye måter å tenke økologisk ansvar, fellesskap og gjensidighet på. Samlingen inkluderer også litteratur som tar for seg beredskap, selvforsyning, matsystemer og praktiske former for økologisk omsorg og forvaltning.
POP-UP biblioteket er ikke ment som en permanent samling, men som et situert og midlertidig arkiv som aktiveres i tilknytning til programmering og residensopphold ved kunstsenteret. Samtidig inngår initiativet i Rogaland Kunstsenters langsiktige arbeid med å bygge opp et nytt bibliotek, i forbindelse med at boksamlingen til kurator og tidligere daglig leder ved Rogaland Kunstsenter, Geir Haraldseth, på sikt skal tilbakeføres til ham.
Biblioteket er tilgjengelig for publikum i prosjektperioden, og inviterer til lesning, refleksjon og samtale om de økologiske og sosiale spørsmålene som preger vår samtid.

As part of the project Approaching Unrest, Rogaland Art Center is establishing a curated eco-social POP-UP library. The library functions as a temporary reading room and knowledge resource that brings together literature exploring the relationships between ecology, economy, resource management, and social organization.
The library is curated by Anne Marte Eidseth Rygh, who is also the curator of the five-year residency program Approaching Unrest (2026–2030). The collection has been developed in connection with the residency of the artist duo Søssa Jørgensen and Geir Tore Holm, whose practice over a long period has engaged with questions related to collective resource management, ecological interconnections, food systems, and alternative ways of organizing community and economy.
The books in the library address a range of intertwined themes: political ecology and the relationship between nature, power, and economic systems; critical perspectives on growth, capitalism, and resource extraction; Indigenous knowledge and other relational understandings of nature; and how artistic practices can contribute to developing new ways of thinking about ecological responsibility, community, and reciprocity. The collection also includes literature addressing preparedness, self-sufficiency, food systems, and practical forms of ecological care and stewardship.
The POP-UP library is not intended as a permanent collection, but rather as a situated and temporary archive activated in connection with programming and residencies at the art center. At the same time, the initiative forms part of Rogaland Art Center’s long-term effort to build a new library, particularly in light of the fact that the book collection belonging to curator and former director of Rogaland Art Center, Geir Haraldseth, will eventually be returned to him.
The library will be accessible to the public during the project period and invites reading, reflection, and conversation about the ecological and social questions shaping our contemporary moment.
