Philipp Kleinmichel

Philipp Kleinmichel

Philipp Kleinmichel is a philosopher, art and media theorist. He works as a author and lecturer. Previously he was a research fellow at Whitney Museum of American Art and Akademie Schloss Solitude. Amongst others, he has lectured on German Idealism, Marxism, poststructuralist theory and media aesthetics at Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe/ZKM, at Institute for Applied Theater Studies Giessen and at University Hamburg. His monograph Im Namen der Kunst. Eine Genealogie der politischen Ästhetik (2014) investigates the emergence and structure of the belief system that until today determines and forces us to evaluate art production in political terms. The central question addressed in the book is not in which way an effective and valuable political and critical art practice may be possible, but why we are forced to repeat such line of questions over and over again. Currently his work focuses on post-humanist aesthetics, the relation of technology and art, and the symbolic exchange in the digital age.
