Fire ganger i året inviterer Performance Art Stavanger en utøvende performancekunstner til Rogaland Kunstsenter. Sammen med ordstyrer og publikum dykker vi ned i interessante og relevante tema innen performance og kunstnerens egen virksomhet. Hvor samtalen vil vandre, og hva som skjer underveis er helt opp til de som deltar.

Performance kafe er et trivelig rom hvor utøvende performancekunstnere og andre interesserte inviteres til å komme sammen for gode samtaler og erfaringsutveksling.
Denne gangen har vi invitert Kirsty Kross, som eksperimenterer med å bruke humor for å engasjere publikum i de vanskelige temaene rundt klimakrisen og dens tilhørende multi krise-effekter. På kaféen vil Kross diskutere stilen og prosessen bak sine performancer, som ofte er spektakulære forestillinger som leker med imperfeksjon og fiasko. Det vil også bli innslag av cameo-performancer fra Kirsty Kross’ kunstneriske alter egoer – Korall Ørreten – en fisk fra det truede Great Barrier Reef, samt Kari Max – en eiendomsmegler fra Bærum med Pepsi Max-avhengighet og ekteskapskrise.

Kross er en øko-feministisk kunstner basert i Oslo, Norge, opprinnelig fra Brisbane, Australia, hvis praksis hovedsakelig sentrerer seg rundt performance, men som også inkluderer happenings, musikk, tegning, skulptur og installasjon. Hennes arbeid er inspirert av trickster-arketypen og bruker ofte alter egoer eller spekulative, immersive intervensjoner for å diskutere bekymringene, motsetningene og de ubehagelige sannhetene rundt klimakrisen og dens effekter. Kross spesialiserer seg i å engasjere publikum og oppmerksomhetsøkonomi gjennom mørkt absurde og ofte åpne intervensjoner som forstyrrer, konfigurerer og setter fart på sosiale, offentlige og/eller institusjonelle rammeverk. Kirsty Kross har en mastergrad fra Kunsthøyskolen i Berlin og en bachelorgrad i kunsthistorie fra University of Queensland. I Norge har Kirsty stilt ut og gjort performancer ved Nasjonalmuseet, Tegnertriennalen, Bergen Assembly, Høstutstillingen, KUBE, Tenthaus og PINK CUBE. I Berlin har hun opptrådt ved Clockwork Gallery, Parkhaus Projects og Galerie Crystal Ball, og i Stockholm på Supermarket Art Fair og den svenske kunstnerforeningen. Fra 2000 til 2010 var Kirsty Kross også et grunnleggende medlem av elektropunk performance-bandet Team Plastique, som spilte over hele Europa og Australia på en rekke musikk- og kunst arrangementer.

Four times a year, Performance Art Stavanger invites a performance artist to Rogaland Kunstsenter. Together with a moderator and the audience, we delve into interesting and relevant topics related to performance and the artist’s own practice. Where the conversation will lead and what happens along the way is entirely up to the participants.

Performance Kafe is a welcoming space where performance artists and interested individuals are invited to come together for meaningful conversations and exchanging experiences.

This time, we have invited Kirsty Kross who experiments in using humour to engage audiences with the difficult thematics of the climate crisis and its associated multi-crises effects. At the Performance Kafe, Kirsty Kross will discuss the style and process of making her performances which often are ambitious spectaculars that play with imperfection and failure. Featuring cameo performances of Kirsty Kross’ artistic alter egos- the Coral Trout- a fish from the endangered Great Barrier Reef as well as Kari Max- a real estate executive from Bærum with a Pepsi Max addiction and a marriage crisis.

Kross is an eco-feminist artist based in Oslo, Norway, originally from Brisbane, Australia whose practice centers mostly on performance, but also incorporates happenings, music, drawing, sculpture and installation.
Her work is inspired by the trickster archetype often using alter egos or speculative, immersive interventions to discuss the anxieties, contradictions and uncomfortable truths of the climate crisis and its effects. Kross specializes in engaging audiences and the attention economy through darkly absurd and often open-ended interventions that disrupt, reconfigure and re-energise social, public and/or institutional frameworks. Kirsty Kross holds a Masters from The Berlin University of the Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from The University of Queensland. In Norway, Kirsty has exhibited/ performed at the National Museum of Norway, Tegnertriennalen, Bergen Assembly, Høstutstillingen, KUBE, Tenthaus and PINK CUBE. In Berlin, she has performed at Clockwork Gallery, Parkhaus Projects and Galerie Crystal Ball and in Stockholm at Supermarket Art Fair and the Swedish Artist’s Association. From 2000 to 2010 Kirsty Kross was also a founding member of the electropunk performance band, Team Plastique that played throughout Europe and Australia at a number of music and art events.
