Om kunstnerne:
Ananda Serné (1988) er forfatter og billedkunstner med base i Bergen. Serné jobber i grenselandet mellom det performative, digitale og taktile ved å skape konstellasjoner av medier som fotografi, lyd, tekstiler og performance. Hun har en MA i Fine Art fra Iceland University of the Arts, og har blitt tildelt flere forsknings- og studioopphold. Eksempler på disse er Ny-Ålesund Centre for Arctic Research på Svalbard, Bamboo Curtain Studio i Taipei og Jan van Eyck Post-akademisk Institute i Nederland. Hennes debutroman «Nachtbloeiers» er satt til et samfunn som sliter med søvnløshet, og ble utgitt av Cossee Publishers (Amsterdam). Romanen ble nominert til Libris Litteraturpris.
Verkene til Ananda Serné reflekterer over dag- og nattrytmer og idéen om dvale: når organismer går inn i en hvilefase som svar på ugunstige forhold. Cyanobakterier går for eksempel inn i en sovende tilstand i visse miljøer. De kan leve i Arktis og potensielt leve på Mars.
Teksten «Second Sleep» er en samtale som foregår i en arktisk forskningslandsby som vever sammen drømmetilstander med den futuristiske vitenskapen om cyanobakterier. Håndfargede tekstiler og silketrykk laget med phycocyanin (et blått lys-høstende pigment som finnes i cyanobakterier) danner en dialog i stoff, papir og glass.

Matt Bryans (1977) er en britisk kunstner som for tiden bor og jobber i Norge. Han har student Skulptur ved Windchester school of Art (BA) og ved Chelsea College of Art and design, London (MA).
Han henter inspirasjon fra naturen, og jobber ofte med oppslukende og tette lagdelte samlinger av funnet og nøye sorterte materialer og skaper forbindelser som går på tvers av historiske og kulturelle kontekster.
Han er for tiden representert av Kate Macgarry (London) og har stilt ut internasjonalt siden 2003, inkludert institusjoner som Tate Modern. Eksempler på hans arbeider kan finnes i både offentlige og private samlinger over hele verden, inkludert Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), MOCA (LA), Museum Voorlinden (Nederland), Stavanger kunstmuseum, Akzo Nobel etc.
Ananda Serné og Matt Bryans mottok Rogaland Kunstsenters produksjonsstipend fra Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond 2023 med prosjekter som nå blir vist på Rogaland Kunstsenter.

About the artists:
Ananda Serné (1988) is a writer and visual artist based in Bergen. Serné works in the borderlands of the performative, digital and tactile by creating constellations of media such as photography, sound, textiles and performance. She holds an MA in Fine Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts, and has been awarded several research and studio residencies, such as Ny-Ålesund Centre for Arctic Scientific Research on Svalbard, Bamboo Curtain Studio in Taipei and the Jan van Eyck Post-academic Institute in the Netherlands. Set in a society struggling with sleeplessness, her debut novel “Nachtbloeiers” was published by Cossee Publishers in Amsterdam and nominated for the Libris Literature Prize.
The works by Ananda Serné reflect on day and night rhythms and the idea of dormancy: when organisms enter a dormant phase in response to adverse conditions. Cyanobacteria for example enter a dormant state in certain environments, they can survive in the Arctic and potentially live on Mars.
The text “Second Sleep” is a conversation set in an Arctic research village that weaves together dream states with the futuristic science of cyanobacteria. Hand-dyed textiles and screen prints made with phycocyanin (a blue light-harvesting pigment found in cyanobacteria) form a dialogue in fabric, paper and glass.

Matt Bryans (1977), is a British artist currently living and working in Norway. He studied Sculpture at Winchester school of Art (BA), and (MA) Sculpture at Chelsea college of Art and design, London.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world, he often works with immersive, densely layered collections of found and carefully sorced materials, crafting connections which cut across historical and cultural contexts.
He is currently represented by Kate Macgarry, London, and has exhibited internationally since 2003, including institutions such as Tate Modern. Examples of his work can be found included in both public and private collections worldwide, including Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, MOCA LA, Museum Voorlinden, Netherlands, Stavanger Kunstmuseum, Akzo Nobel, etc.
